Recognizing fraudulent invoices and warning letters

Shock in your inbox: Is this bill real?

Imagine you receive an email or a letter. Someone writes: "You have an outstanding invoice! Pay 500 Euros immediately, or the police or a collection agency will come!"

"Oh no, did I do something wrong? Do I really have to pay this? I'm afraid of a penalty!"

Don't panic! This is a very common trap. Scammers send thousands of fake invoices and warnings every day. They deliberately want to scare you into sending money quickly. We'll show you how to spot these lies immediately with the help of AI.

The Solution: AI as Your Fraud Detective

An Artificial Intelligence (AI) is very good at detecting fraud (scam or phishing). It knows the criminals' tricks. You show the AI the text of the email. The AI then looks for typical warning signs and tells you if you can simply delete the message.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Click nothing: In no case click on a link in the malicious email! Also, do not open any pictures or attachments (PDFs).
  2. Copy text: Only mark and copy the pure text of the message.
  3. Open AI Go to an AI tool like ChatGPT.
  4. Use the command: Copy the command from the dark box below and insert your text into the parentheses [ ] one
  5. Read result: Have the AI check the text and follow its reliable tips.

💻 Your Copy Prompt (The Command)

Copy this text completely:

I received a bill or a warning letter. I'm worried it might be a scam.

Here is the text I received:
[Paste the copied text of the email or letter here]

Please read the text and respond using very simple language:
1. Check for a scam: Are there any typical warning signs of a scam in this text?
2. Is this sender known to be fake?
3. Give me safe next steps: What exactly should I do now (e.g., ignore it, delete it)?
What do the brackets [ ] mean?

Delete the parentheses. Insert the text the scammers sent you there. But be sure to delete your own name from the text first!

Checklist: Warning Signs You Need to Know

⚠️ Important notice: Even AI makes mistakes sometimes. Protect your data!

  • No sensitive data: Never enter your real passwords, your address, or your bank information (IBAN) into the AI or on third-party websites!
  • Warning Sign 1 – High Pressure: Scammers often say "Pay within the next 24 hours!". Real companies always give you at least 7 to 14 days.
  • Warning Sign 2 – Threats: Emails that immediately threaten to involve the police, the courts, or impose heavy fines are almost always fake.
  • Warning Sign 3 – Incorrect Sender: The email claims to be from "PayPal" or "Netflix," but the email address looks like this: info@kd-18374-xyz.com? That's 100% % fraud!
